Nationally Recognized Cancer Care
Premier Health takes pride in providing cancer care for you and your loved ones. Our cancer care centers are accredited by the Commission on Cancer.
Comprehensive Cancer Care Close To Home
Choosing where you and your family will receive cancer care is a critical decision. Fighting cancer takes strength, and Premier Health believes you should focus your strength on your medical care and recovery, rather than travel time to and from your
cancer center. Premier Health has cancer facilities conveniently located throughout Southwest Ohio and
easily accessible to you and your family.
An Extensive Network Of Experienced Physicians
At Premier Health, we see every cancer patient as an individual, and our team of physicians is here to provide compassionate care with a multidisciplinary approach. You’ll benefit from the collective expertise of medical oncologists with extensive training; surgeons with experience in minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery; and a team of radiation oncologists. We also have a neurological oncologist with experience in skull base tumors, a comprehensive and multidisciplinary head and neck cancer program, a team of specially trained gynecologic oncologists, and a specialized liver and pancreatic cancer program.
Innovation: Advanced Technologies, Facilities, And Clinical Research
Premier Health offers advanced cancer fighting tools and technologies, including
chemotherapy,
radiation treatments, surgical interventions, and clinical trials, all close to home where you need them most. From brain
surgery to
Yttrium-90 radioembolization, we have the expertise and equipment needed to provide powerful cancer care for you and your loved ones.
We can offer you advanced cancer-fighting tools and technologies, including:
- TrueBeam® Linear Accelerator, an advanced radiation technology able to deliver powerful cancer treatment with pinpoint accuracy and precision. Premier Health is the first in the Dayton area to have this equipment.
- Stereotactic radiosurgery, which uses the linear accelerator to target tumor sites with high-intensity ionizing radiation. It includes an X-ray system to verify a tumor’s position. It also includes a respiratory gating system to monitor and accommodate the tumor's movement.
- NanoKnife, which uses electrical currents to destroy cancerous tumors, instead of more typical heat or cold, to avoid damaging healthy nearby tissue. The procedure is a minimally invasive option for inoperable or hard-to-reach tumors, including ones near major blood vessels and other critical parts of the body.
- Chemoembolization, delivering a high dose of chemotherapy directly to the liver, while depriving the tumor of its blood supply. Embolization keeps the chemotherapy drug in the tumor by blocking the blood flow to other areas of the body. A higher dose of chemotherapy can be used, because less of the drug circulates to the healthy cells in the body.
- Radiofrequency ablation, a focused heat treatment used to treat cancer in patients with liver tumors. It is performed with a probe that can be programmed for very specific temperatures. This can be used on one or several small lesions in the liver.
- Cryoablation, which delivers the energy directly into the tumor. It’s similar to radio frequency ablation; however, rather than killing the tumor with heat, cryoablation uses an extremely cold gas to freeze it.
- Robotic-assisted surgery, which allows surgeons to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures. Benefits from robotic surgery may include shorter hospital stay and recovery time; less pain, scarring, and blood loss; and less risk of infection.
- Stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy, advanced techniques that allow our physicians to treat patients with high doses of radiation in a shorter number of days.
- Total skin electron beam, a technology used to treat Mycosis Fungoides or cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). This highly specialized technology is available at only a few cancer centers in the U.S. We offer multiple methods of administering radiation therapy for skin cancers, including such skin applicators as the Leipzig, Valencia and Freiburg Flap.
- Transoral robotic surgery (TORS), a minimally invasive approach for removing cancer and noncancerous head and neck tumors in areas of the throat that are difficult to reach with traditional surgery.
- Fully integrated image guided platforms, which provide real-time tumor tracking and visualization that allow for adaptive therapy of Y90 Microspheres to treat liver cancers. Premier Health is one of only 120 sites in the U.S. that offer this treatment.
- Robotic bronchoscopy. Premier Health is the first in Ohio to use the Monarch™ Platform that uses robotic-assisted technology so pulmonary specialists can navigate and search the delicate, distant branches of the lung and obtain tissue samples from hard-to-reach nodules for biopsy. Robotic bronchoscopy provides improved reach, vision, and control for viewing the inside of the airways, offering the potential for earlier diagnosis and treatment for lung cancer.
Screening And Genetic Testing To Prevent Cancer
Preventing cancer — or detecting it early — is the goal of Premier Health’s comprehensive Cancer Prevention Program that identifies and supports patients who have an increased risk of specific types of cancer based on their family history or genetics.
Cancer Annual Report
The Premier Health Cancer Institute publishes the Cancer Annual Report each year, which is a resource that offers useful information about Premier Health’s cancer-fighting activities. It provides:
- An overview of the comprehensive cancer services available at all Premier Health locations
- Statistical review of the types and incidence of various cancers diagnosed and treated during the previous calendar year at all Premier Health hospitals, also available by hospital
- Articles about patients battling cancer and the physicians who treat them
