If you want to learn more about your cancer and its treatment, Premier Health offers a variety of classes, programs, and events to keep you connected and informed. We host support groups to provide you with the comfort and support of others who are experiencing cancer. We also alert you to community events sponsored by us and others who support cancer research or cancer care. With all of these connections, we want you to trust that you’re not alone in this journey!

Collaborations of Hope Educational Series

All cancer survivors, caregivers, and staff are invited to our monthly educational series covering a variety of topics related to the cancer journey, its prevention, and treatment. Programs are held at Miami Valley Hospital South Comprehensive Cancer Center in Conference Room A, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Call (937) 438-7880(937) 438-7880.

Cooking and Nutrition Classes

Cooking Demo With Dorothy Lane Market

This annual event celebrates Survivorship Month (June), when the staff at the Dorothy Lane Market Culinary Center prepares recipes that are healthy and easy to make, using readily accessible ingredients. 

Healthy Steps

Also known as the Lebed Method, Healthy Steps is an internationally renowned exercise and movement program designed to aid in the physical and emotional recovery of patients with cancer and cancer survivors. 

Healthy Steps helps restore range of motion, enhance physical and emotional balance and reduce swelling from lymphedema. The classes are set to music and designed for sitting or standing. The program has been found to be beneficial for people with cancer and other chronic conditions, including arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson disease, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. It is also beneficial for senior citizens. 

The program emphasizes improving your emotional self and enjoying the experience. All fitness levels are welcome. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. at the Atrium Medical Center fifth floor Rehabilitation Gym. Lung Cancer Prevention and Awareness

Physicians can refer individuals who smoke and are hospitalized at Miami Valley Hospital for one-on-one counseling by respiratory therapists who are certified smoking cessation counselors. Premier Community Health (see below) offers the services of a certified smoking cessation counselor free of charge. Miami Valley Hospital staff members also sit on the local Smoke Free Task Force.

Other Cancer Prevention and Education Programs

Premier Community Health offers community health programs focusing on prevention, early detection, and disease self-management of breast, colorectal, skin, prostate, and lung cancers.
