Regional Referral Center
If you need specialty surgery, a higher level of care, or an inpatient bed at a Premier Health facility, your doctor, an emergency department, or a nursing home can directly request your transfer and admittance with one phone call to the Premier Health Regional Referral Center.
This command center coordinates every level of referral – from dispatching CareFlight helicopters to transporting patients to our Level I Trauma Center to placing incoming patients in one of the more than 1,600 licensed beds at Premier Health facilities.
What We Offer
The Regional Referral Center enhances communication and coordination for all patients coming into and moving between all Premier Health facilities. This cutting-edge technology center provides a holistic approach to system-wide care by combining our:
- Referral Call Center. This is the point of entry for referring hospitals, physicians, and nursing facilities to call and admit or transfer a patient to a Premier Health hospital. Staff arranges for an admitting physician to be in place when a patient arrives at a Premier Health facility.
- Patient Logistics. This team of registered nurses manages bed placement for current and incoming patients at our five hospital campuses. The team collaborates with referring physicians to help determine the appropriate level of care and places patients in critical, advanced, or medical surgical (step down from advanced care) care.
- CareFlight Air & Mobile Communications Center. All CareFlight activities are coordinated here to transport patients from accident scenes and community hospitals to Miami Valley Hospital’s Level I Trauma Center. Our team tracks our helicopters in the air, our medical intensive care units (MICUs) on the ground, and monitors our helipad hangers, other aircraft flying in the area, and the weather.
- Transportation Hub. American Medical Response (AMR) partners with Premier Health to provide emergent and non-emergent ambulance transport, including Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support transport, across Premier Health facilities using 32 ambulances to handle nearly 40,000 transports each year. AMR does not transport critical care patients.
The center includes a high-tech bank of computer screens that help staff to monitor and respond to incoming phone calls, physician pages, transport orders, and the status of each hospital’s bed occupancy and expected demand. Hundreds of workers access this real-time information to rapidly find the best place for incoming patients among our five hospital campuses.
The Regional Referral Center team works to give you peace of mind. Our service includes:
