Job Shadowing at Premier Health

Are you interested in a career in healthcare? Premier Health offers opportunities for students to learn about a variety of health care careers in clinical and non-clinical settings, or for the college student to obtain experiences for degree requirements.

The job shadowing program pairs up a student with a health care professional to observe everyday skills, responsibilities, and communication while performing in a patient care environment. Opportunities to observe clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals are available in the following areas:

  • Nursing
  • Patient Care Technician
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Imaging
  • Physical or Occupational Therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Hospital Administration
  • Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • Plant Operations/Facilities Services
  • Environmental Services

Who Can Participate?

Any individual 14 years of age and older, is eligible to job shadow. To job shadow in the emergency department or surgery, individuals must be 16 years of age.

High school students deciding on a career path who want to observe a professional doing everyday activities, may apply for a one-time, four-hour job shadow.

High school and college students needing to meet requirements to enter an academic program of study may apply for a multi-day job shadow.

Why Consider a Health Care Profession?

  • To make a difference in the quality of life and care of patients
  • To be a part of a team and family-oriented environment
  • To have the opportunity to meet new people every day
  • To work in a high technology/fast-paced field with state-of-the-art equipment

What Will I Learn?

The Job Shadow Program is an observation-only experience in a select department within Premier Health based on availability. The participant will have an opportunity to observe and interact with a health care worker as they go about their daily activities. Hands-on patient care isn’t part of the job shadow experience and will not be permitted.

Who is a Preceptor?

You will be assigned to an experienced professional in your area of interest who enjoys working with students. The preceptor is an expert in their field who is willing to share career information and review what a typical day in their life looks like.

The purpose of the job shadow experience is to foster an awareness of the skills required for a specific career and to experience health care culture.

Thank you for your interest in job shadowing at Premier Health. Applications must be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the first date requested to job shadow. Please allow 1 – 2 weeks for your application to be reviewed. Questions can be directed to phjobshadow@premierhealth.com
