A Partnership That Benefits Everyone
Premier Health and Wright State University (WSU) Boonshoft School of Medicine bring both sides of the research equation together. By combining scientific research with extensive clinical knowledge, the Clinical Neuroscience Institute (CNSI) brings important new treatments to patients quickly.
The relationship between WSU and Premier Health gives us the opportunity to learn from each other. By understanding the needs of scientists, our doctors can observe and report on their patients’ needs. Research scientists at the institute learn from our doctors how to direct their research toward treatments that will provide the most benefit to patients.
Advancing Medical Education
The institute provides the opportunity for medical students to work closely with researchers to advance their knowledge of neuroscience. CNSI has received approval for a residency program that will allow recently graduated medical students, or “Residents”, to further their knowledge of neurosciences by combining clinical work with direct experience of scientific research. After four years of extensive training in the neurosciences they will graduate as General Neurologists and have the opportunity for further subspecialty training in many neurology fellowships.
The CNSI collaboration also brings mutual educational benefits to our doctors and to the researchers in the institute. Practicing doctors participate in lectures to the medical students and bring the collective benefits of grand rounds (collaborative discussions by doctors concerning a topic or interesting patient) to their peers and translational researchers.
Building for the Future
With our partnership in place, WSU and Premier Health have begun to tailor their choice of new neurology specialists and researchers to the mutual needs of our clinical research. By increasing this collaborative synergy, the benefits of combining research with patient care will continue to increase.
The CNSI partnership benefits both WSU and Premier Health, and is a great benefit to our patients. As we move forward, developing new advances in neurologic treatment, the value of CNSI to the Dayton region and to neurologic patients worldwide will only increase.
