Mike's Story: Racing Once Again
What seemed to be routine broken ribs from a racing accident ended up causing severe pulmonary problems for Mike, a veteran dirt-bike rider. When he awoke at 3 a.m. and couldn’t breathe, walk, or talk, he went by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital for rib plating surgery. Today, Mike’s back to racing, mountain biking, and working out.

When Shane, a Coldwater High School football player, was hit after catching a pass, he couldn’t get up. Flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, Shane learned he had a spinal cord injury and a 20 percent chance of walking again. Through sheer grit — and with strong support — Shane is making great progress toward his goal of walking on his own.
Jessica's Story: Thriving After a Vicious Attack
Jessica thought she would not survive after her husband choked and stabbed her, then tried to hit her with his car. With sheriffs protecting the helipad, Jessica came by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where the trauma team immediately tended to her serious, large neck wound. Today, Jessica is back to work, enjoying her happiness and freedom.
Chris' Story: 'We Are So Blessed'
Chris’s family didn’t know if he would live to meet his soon-to-be-born child after a horrific car crash left him with a serious head injury and spinal and other fractures. After surgeries and intensive rehabilitation at Miami Valley Hospital, though, he’s home and relearning how to live. His family says, “We are so blessed.”
