What is celiac disease?

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that the body's own immune system attacks the lining of the small intestine and the tissue of the small intestine. It's doing that as a reaction to a protein called gluten, which comes from wheat. The damage that occurs in that small intestine can be very problematic and create all sorts of digestive problems.
