How is a person diagnosed with the flu?

An individual can be diagnosed with the flu simply from recognition of the symptoms by the physician, whoever is seeing the patient. That includes high fever, sudden onset, which is different than a cold, no gradual onset, sudden onset only, the muscle aches and runny nose. The testing can confirm the suspicion or diagnosis with some testing sent to the lab.
