The benefits of a midwife for prenatal care and for delivery are that a midwife is going to focus on the woman as a whole. She's going to focus on her family. Because a lot of times, women will come to us wanting a home birth or wanting a more natural setting, and although in the state of Ohio, nurse midwives cannot perform home births, we can come to a happy medium. We act as their advocate in the hospital setting, and even in the physician setting of providing them with a natural approach or even an epidural if they like. Actually providing the woman with the type of birth that she would like, of course within reason.
