About 20 years ago I slipped and fell on my left knee and arthritis set up in it and it got to the point where it was bone grating on bone. There was just no bursa left and it was quite painful.
Well I had to buy a car that didn’t have a single mesh transmission in it, I had to go to an automatic. I could no longer push the clutch in. Walking. I couldn’t go dancing. I couldn’t even go for a walk without a cane and a block’s time I quit, it hurt too bad. I just suffered with it, put up with it ‘til it got to the point that I finally had my primary care physician say ‘we are going to do this’ and he got me my surgeon.
My surgeon is Dr. Delcamp and Dr. Luna, my primary care physician, referred me to him. Dr. Delcamp and I hit it off just great. We did the surgery on the 13th day of January of this year 2014. And 11 days later I was out of the hospital and walking on my own.
My impression of Dr. Delcamp . . . first off he’s a gentleman, he’s a quiet spoken person and he takes the time to go in depth to explain to you what your problem is, show you on the x-rays both the frontal view and the side view, as to where the deterioration is and then explained with a sample knee replacement as to what it was, how it worked and how he was going to insert it into my body which was nice to know.
I had therapy there at the hospital. The therapists are phenomenal. . We really worked at it. Well, there were a couple of days right after surgery that I was very tired and I really didn’t want to do and it was ‘ah come on you can do five more minute Gina, just walk up that set of stairs and back down, four little stairs up and four little stairs down.’ They encouraged me to do that and I did and then I was tired and I was ready to sit down and have a bottle of water and we got up after resting a few minutes and then we tackled them again. They keep encouraging you to take that little extra step, that little extra umph to get through your therapy because the more you do, like I said, the faster you heal and the better you feel in the long run.
It was heaven to go dancing the first time. To have him hold me in his arms as we twirled around the dance floor and I didn’t have to stop after five minutes because my knee is hurtin’. It was great.
