Jessica's Story
Transcript for Jessica’s Story
Jessica: There’s a lot of uncertainty and a lot of excitement and you come in thinking, “This is it! You know, I’ve been waiting for nine months for this.”
Dr. Boyce: I have known Jessica throughout two of her pregnancies. She is someone I’ve gotten to know really well just over the years, and she really wanted a natural childbirth without an epidural.
Cathie Channel, RN: Our job as nurses, especially in labor and delivery, for the delivery, is to support the mother in whatever decision that she makes for her childbirth experience.
Jessica: They know what they are doing at Atrium. They really do. They’ve been doing it for a long time. They’re always advancing, they’re always researching.
Dr. Boyce: When you’re having a baby, every pregnancy is different and every delivery is different. And even though we, you know, you’ve been an OB/GYN for years, every delivery is different for us, too.
Jessica: They make you feel like your baby is special and your experience here was special.
Cathie Channel, MD: It is a family affair. We support the mother and any people that she wants to have around her to help her with her experience. Dr. Boyce was here. She came in for her delivery, and Karen was her labor and delivery nurse. I was fortunate to be the nursery nurse that night, so I got to help take care of her baby.
Jessica: Dr. Boyce, I’ve known her for a couple of years now. She is the most down to earth person.
Dr. Boyce: From the beginning, Jessica and I really clicked. We really got along. She was a nurse in the OR, and I think we have a lot of the same values and morals.
Jessica: She fits pretty well, I think, in with the community at Atrium because it does feel like a close-knit group of people.
Dr. Boyce: I just really enjoyed taking care of her while she was pregnant and felt privileged to be there for her delivery and one of the best days of her life.
Jessica: And then after the baby comes, man they come in and they’re excited. I mean they act like they’ve never seen a baby before. You know, I said that to Dr. Boyce the other day. She saw a picture of a baby and she said, “Oh look at that little baby” and I said, “It is so great to see a doctor who can look at a baby, who delivers babies every day, and can look at a baby and see the beauty in it.”
Jessica: This is Evie and she is 2. She’s my only daughter of four. And this is Jett and he’s 5 ½ months old and he is the fourth and hopefully final.
