Typically we're looking at the low-risk woman, who doesn't have a whole lot of risk factors, but again, we can help you make that decision if need be. In the state of Ohio, women who choose to deliver their babies with nurse midwives will be delivering in hospitals. The Ohio Board of Nursing regulates certified nurse midwives that we are only able to deliver in the hospital setting, not in the home setting. You will find though that many hospitals have accommodated those home-like settings. Actually, we have two in the Cincinnati and Dayton area that have birth centers within the hospital that you will find nurse midwives who will provide a home-like setting and a natural state for moms who are looking for that option. Midwives also can take care of patients and moms and babies with epidurals, pain medication. We provide water therapy. We provide massage, birthing balls, and different techniques that help the woman through labor.
